From the Coach

We invite you to consider coming to WLU to run with us. Please know that your entire school experience is very important to us. We traditionally have a small team between 30 to 40 athletes that specialize in track events in the sprints/hurdles right up to the 3000m. In addition we offer a full cross country running program and both our women’s and men’s teams have participated in the U SPORTS finals for the past 4 years. We have strong academic programs and a very supportive staff that you can go to for help when you need some TLC.

When you come and run for us you will be able to race in all competitions (four in cross country and five to six for indoor track) prior to the OUA and U SPORTS championships. We are quickly developing a team atmosphere of excellence and we will help you be the very best athlete you can be. We are putting an emphasis on our relay programs and look forward to having very competitive 4 x 400m and 4 x 800m relay teams.

Laurier also provides top-notch sports injury prevention and therapy to all our athletes. Students are able to make appointments online and most days are able to receive therapy within 24 hours. In addition, we have a superb strength and conditioning coach who works with our team. Weekly strength workouts are provided and woven into the overall fitness training. All athletes also have access to a great athletic administrative support team that many of our athletes have accessed and found that the attentive care and support given has been invaluable.

New in 2020 we have added 3 assistant coaches helping run the Middle distance program. Andrew Aguano ran for the Windsor team and comes with a wealth of running experience. In addition Emily Driedger and Carise Thompson are working with our Women’s team. They both were nationally ranked middle distance runners competing for Guelph University.
