Empty classrooms, chalkboards, and Skype calls hosted the conversations that grew into Streamline Athletes. The company was officially founded in 2017 by two friends and former college track and field teammates.
Track and field gave us our university experience. It gave us teammates, coaches, mentors, memories, competition, and inspiration. We started Streamline Athletes because too much of the path from high school to college depended on luck, geography, or connections. We thought that more athletes deserved to be recruited by the right college programs.
There are more than 1,700 schools offering varsity track and field or cross country. The roster spots exist. The matches exist. What didn't exist before we started Streamline Athletes was a platform built specifically to connect the athletes and coaches who all wanted to find each other.
Brett Montrose
Founder & Co-CEO
Brett knows how college recruiting works: the timelines, how standards get set, how a coach builds a class across event groups, what a rule change does to an athlete’s options, and where families lose months without realizing it. An athlete or parent gets all of that in a Recruitment Advising session. He ran for Simon Fraser between 2009 and 2014, and describes himself as someone who should have moved up from the 400 to the 800 meters sooner. He is a nerd about music, film, dogs, books, sport and television.
For college coaches, Brett is the first conversation. He works out what a program needs to build a better roster, shows how recruiting on Streamline Athletes works, and gets a coaching staff set up to do it.
"Commit where you're valued and where you believe you can grow, as a student, athlete, and person. Confidence in your decision comes from strong goals, up-to-date recruiting insight, and personal contextualization of the landscape."
Brett is the advisor on Recruitment Advising sessions, and college coaches can book a meeting with him directly.
Alexandre Paré
Founder & Co-CEO
Alex came to run for Simon Fraser University in 2010, having grown up running middle distance and cross country in Sherbrooke, Quebec. During his university years, Alex studied business and education, while supporting the coaching staff with their recruitment; before Streamline Athletes, his aspiration was to become an athletic director. He's the person on our team most likely to be deep in the data on what coaches need and what athletes are looking for. Once a program is on board, Alex is the one they work with: he runs the engine that connects the college programs we work with to the athletes they're trying to recruit. He is a dad, still logs kilometres, and lives by the Steve Prefontaine mantra: “To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.”
"My favorite part of this work is figuring out exactly what each college coach is trying to build, then helping them attack it with everything we've got: software, the right messaging, precise organization. The coaches who join Streamline Athletes care deeply about their teams, which means the athletes ending up on those rosters are in really good hands."
