From the Coach

This is an exciting time for distance running at UPEI. Over the past two years, we have worked very hard to establish our program as a legitimate AUS contender. Our established athletes have worked very hard at bettering themselves and our recruiting classes have been solid. If you want to be part of the building process that leads to a longstanding, successful program, then UPEI is the place to be right now.

Along the way, you will enjoy small class sizes with talented, friendly professors in one of the most beautiful settings in Canada. UPEI is an excellent academic institution with a strong reputation as one of Canada's outstanding small, primarily undergraduate universities. I have firsthand experience with this as an athlete who "came from away" for school and fell in love with the Island and everything that goes with it, including UPEI.

The Alumni Canada Games Track and Field facility, host venue of the 2009 Canada Games and 2012 Legion Track and Field Championships is one of the finest in Atlantic Canada. It is known as a fast track, and athletes consistently rave about it after competing here. UPEI is also host to an excellent, newly refurbished turf field and an outstanding workout area. Our strength and conditioning coach, Brett Roberts is widely regarded across Eastern Canada and we have access to an outstanding sports-nutritionist.

Our coaching philosophy is to meet each athlete he or she is at. It is no secret that becoming a successful athlete takes hard work, and it's important to do things the right way; however, one of the luxuries of being a small, focused group is we can tailor the programming to each individual, in order to come up with what works best for him or her.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
