From the Coach

The Johns Hopkins Men’s and Women’s Track & Field programs have become one of the premier programs in the country in NCAA Division III. Academically, Johns Hopkins has ranked in the top 10 in the country and top 15 in the world for the last decade.

The programs success has been highlighted by winning 6 NCAA National Women’s XC Championships in the last 8 years while the Men have now placed in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships 3 of the last 4 years. We compete in the Centennial Conference, and NCAA Division III affiliate. However, we take a lot of pride in challenging ourselves with the most competitive schedule we can put forth for our team, predominantly competing against division I opponents. In the past several years we have had meets at Penn State, Louisville, Duke, Navy, NC State, Boston and Stanford, and have made trips to many other great meets across the country. Our XC schedule over the last few seasons have been highlighted with the Boston College Invite where we ran against Providence, Oregon, Syracuse, Michigan, Duke, Wisconsin, and 10 other highly ranked Division I programs with Hopkins being the lone Division III school. We also regularly compete in the Gold Race at the Paul Short Invitational, the largest XC meet on the East coast where we get to compete with Georgetown, Villanova, and Florida State amongst others. We’ve also enjoyed meets at Van Corlandt Park (The Iona Invitational), and the Walt Disney Classic. As you can see, you will surely get the competition you need here at Johns Hopkins, and still have the opportunity to possibly compete at an NCAA Championship.

On the track, we have consistently won both Conference Indoor and Outdoor titles for both the men’s and women’s program for the last decade, setting a record amount of individuals qualifying for the NCAA Championships last year.

One of the main differences between our program here at Hopkins and many others, is we allow our students to prioritize everything related to their academics here as their top priority. This includes scheduling classes, meeting with professors, attending review sessions, as well as involvement with research and internships, this will always be a top priority of all of our students and coaches. However, the commitment to our track and field and cross country programs need to be that second priority to make everything work. We feel this has allowed our students to succeed tremendously in their studies, and compete at the highest level athletically. Coaches Van Allen, Knestout, Elliott host the BMore Elite Summer Distance camp each July. This is a great opportunity to learn more about our program and interact with the coaches and student-athletes that serve as counselors. All info can be found at www.bmoreelitecamp.com.
